Book an Appointment NowHOW MANY APPOINTMENTS ARE USUALLY REQUIRED TO MAKE DENTURES?
The first appointment usually involves taking impressions of the upper and lower arches. These impressions usually known as ‘primary impressions’ are usually taken in an alginate or silicone type material. The impressions are cast in the dental laboratory into plaster of Paris models which will become the working models of the patients mouth. These models can be highly accurate however it is often recommended that secondary impressions are taken in special trays made in the dental laboratory.
During the second appointment, the dentist uses custom trays for precise impressions of the patient’s mouth. This ensures accurate details of the arch being restored. The dentist also verifies the bite, which is crucial for proper denture function. The dentist and patient then choose the denture’s color, shape, shade, size, and position. All this information, including impressions and bite records, is sent to the dental lab for the technician to create a wax trial of the new dentures.
BOOK AN APPOINTMENT NOWThe third appointment, known as the wax try-in, allows the dentist and patient to review the dentures’ progress. They check the position, shade, shape, and size of the teeth and make necessary adjustments for a natural look. The occlusion is also verified to ensure even biting pressure. Once approved, the wax try-in is sent back to the dental lab for completion.
The fourth appointment, or ‘fit’ appointment, involves processing the wax try-in into an acrylic or metal denture. After being polished and refined for comfort, the dentist fits the denture in the patient’s mouth and makes necessary adjustments. Further adjustments may be needed to ensure comfort and reduce sore spots. The dentist will provide instructions for denture care, including removing them at night to prevent oral infections and allowing the gum tissues to breathe.

At Brighton Implant Clinic, dental implants are simple and comfortable. Patients can choose local anesthesia or sedation for a relaxed experience. Procedures usually take 30 minutes to an hour. For back teeth, a healing period of 8 weeks is needed for integration with the jawbone. Front teeth replacements can often include a temporary tooth fitted on the same day. After healing, a second visit involves taking impressions for a custom-made, natural-looking tooth, typically made from durable, stain-resistant zirconia. Post-treatment care includes regular oral hygiene and annual check-ups to maintain the implant.
